The Ketelmeer, bordering on the IJsselmeer in the east, is being cleaned up by de Vries & van de Wiel.
Sediment remediation works were started on the west side of the Ketelmeer in June 2010 by order of the Department of Waterways and Public Works. These will improve water quality and allow for the further development of nature, shipping and recreation.
The remediation is necessary because the Ketelmeer was severely contaminated between 1950 and 1980 by sludge from the Rhine and IJssel basins. In the past, the Department of Waterways and Public Works already had the eastern part of the Ketelmeer remediated.
